SWAT situation ends in Rio Rancho with arrest of man

A SWAT situation in Rio Rancho ended with the arrest of a barricaded man who will be charged with a number of crimes against his ex-wife.

The SWAT team was called after reports that John Campbell, 64, made suicide threats and barricaded himself in a home on Norfolk Court in southeast Rio Rancho.

Police said Campbell attacked his ex-wife, but it's unclear if he assaulted her during the barricade, or at another time.

Campbell was charged with aggravated assault on a household member, criminal sexual penetration and kidnapping.

He was taken to the hospital with an unrelated injury and will be transferred to the Sandoval County Detention Center when he's released.

Local jeweler designs for country music's biggest stars

From Hollywood to Nashville, celebrities are lining up to get their hands on an Alan Scott original.

Never heard of him? Well just wait. The celebrity jeweler is gaining popularity and now his work can be seen on national television and People Magazine.

From country singers like Miranda Lambert and Brad Paisley to American Idol contestants, Alan Scott Designs are now the must have accessories.

So who is the man behind the company?

"My name is Alan Scott.. Alan is my middle name, Scott is my first name. So I just kind of reversed them. Just kind of had a ring to it I guess."

It must have worked, because now that name is spreading like wild fire and Scott is scrambling to keep up.

"This has probably been the best year I've had, just been a rocking year for me."

Rio Rancho HS participates in Vans national contest

A Rio Rancho art program is fighting to win their school $50,000, and you can help.

Students from Rio Rancho High School just submitted four specially-designed shoes for a national contest. Winning not only means bragging rights, but big money for the school's art program.

The contest, hosted by Vans shoe company, narrowed down a list of 900 schools so the public could vote on the top 50 designs across the country. Rio Rancho High School is the only school across New Mexico to make the semi-finals.

"We're just trying to get New Mexico out there. Show we're just as good as New York or California and those [other] big states," said senior, Cody Kirk.

The company sent the school four white canvas shoes with four categories to follow: art, music, action sports and local flavor.

The New Mexico-centric shoe seems to be a favorite.

Drilling company leaves family high and dry

In many parts of New Mexico, the only way to have running water is by drilling for it.  For some it is not always that easy.

In July, Richard Landavazo hired Joe Roybal’s BMS Drilling to drill a water well.

In all, they paid a total of almost $24,000 to drill a water well.  Roybal's BMS Drilling crew went to work at Landavazo’s home right outside of the Rio Rancho city limits.  They did not get far.  In BMS' own log, submitted late and only after being threatened from the state, it admits it abandoned the drill at 720 feet, 80-feet short of the promised 800 feet drill.
